EV Rubery youth updates

The end of our youth work at Rubery youth centre is approaching fast. Its been great working with the kids and youth workers down there.

This session we met with our skateboarding group. They got some more footage skating on the ramps. We have plenty to work with and have seen some great improvement in camera skills in the group. They have chosen their track and their video is now ready for editing.

Our other group who formed a band, wrote a song and recorded it last week rocked out on stage for their video. It was great to get some of the other kids in being the crowd and seeing how their work had paid off. Still very impressed with how much this group has managed to achieve in such a short space of time. their video has also gone to edit and ready for the film festival at Artrix centre in November.

Over the next two weeks we will be working with the remaining group and trying to ensure that everyone has got a chance to be involved in this project.

I was sad to hear that Rubery youth centre may face closure! I don’t think people realise just how important youth groups are. They give young people a chance to meet new people, develop new skills and just have somewhere safe to hang out! Over the weeks we have been there we have heard some heartwarming stories about how Rubery Youth has helped everyone who goes there! We will be making a docu with the help of the centre. I am tempted to send it to the government to remind them how important youth centres are in todays society!
